Tyler
Peters.

I hold degrees in Computer Engineering from UNLV and Mathematics from Fort Valley State University. I work at Landis+Gyr as a Solutions Implementation Manager, where I help utility customers deploy network equipment and troubleshoot end-to-end communication.

Experience

LANDIS+GYRSolutions Implementation Manager
  • Manage the technical relationship between Landis+Gyr and its customers, helping translate requirements into implementation decisions and coordinating technical support.
  • Diagnose communication issues across interconnected systems, tracing problems from SCADA applications through to end devices and explaining the next steps to customers.
  • Coordinate firmware, device configuration, and software releases across customer environments.
  • Built a Python and Flask tool that accepts software log files and presents the embedded raw DNP3 packets alongside their decoded data.
LANDIS+GYRTechnical Implementation Engineer I
  • Used MSSQL and Oracle databases to diagnose system issues and improve reliability.
  • Wrote Python scripts to reformat files and prepare text for database queries.
  • Supported Linux and Windows servers while partnering with Development, Engineering, and SQA teams on root-cause analysis.
  • Managed updates and releases through formal change-control processes, including post-implementation customer support.
ROCK CENTRALTechnical Support Specialist Intern
  • Provided front-line technical support across the Rock Family of Companies by phone and remote desktop.
  • Diagnosed and resolved user issues across common workplace hardware and software.
  • Created presentations and gamified training modules for common support scenarios.

Projects

Internal tool

DNP3 Decoder

I built DNP3 Decoder to help inspect communication between systems during troubleshooting. It replaces the process of searching log files in Notepad++ and manually decoding individual messages.

The tool extracts DNP3 packets from an uploaded log and organizes them into a browsable list, with a packet count and summary metrics. Users can filter incoming and outgoing traffic and open any message to read its decoded data.

Senior design

The SMARTE Bike

For my senior design project at UNLV, I worked with a teammate to build an electric bicycle with a connected web app. I built the smart-contract system that issues digital keys, accepts payments, and checks who has access to the bike.

We demonstrated the bike at the December 2022 senior design showcase.

Programs & Research

IBMIBM Accelerate Program
  • Participated in IBM Accelerate, a summer program combining technical projects with professional mentorship.
  • Collaborated with a team to build web applications across both frontend and backend.
UNLVResearch Experience for Undergraduates (REU)

During UNLV’s Mechanisms of Evolution REU, I studied genetic changes in fruit flies bred to survive longer without food. The research explored how those changes relate to increased fat storage.

I analyzed genomic data from five fly populations and a control group. Our analysis found 13 candidate regions shared across the five populations, and I presented the findings to UNLV faculty and students.
